The List of the projects proposed for under- and post-graduate students

I. Research direction: "NICA, NICA/MPD and Nuclotron-M"
  1. PhD thesis, accelerator: "Stochastic cooling system for Nuclotron". Supervisor: Trubnikov G.V. (trubnikov@jinr.ru). The work will be in collaboration with the Research Center at Juelich). It implies:

    a. Improvement of the pick-ups and kicker prototypes being in use at Juelich,
    b. R&D of the wide-band (band width 2 GGz) powerful amplifier, delay lines etc.
    c. Production, mounting, tests at the ring.

  2. PhD thesis, accelerator: "Simulation of particle dynamics in NICA accelerators/rings". Supervisors: Sidorin A.O. (sidorin@jinr.ru), Mikhailov V.A. (vmikhaylov@jinr.ru).

  3. PhD thesis, accelerator (further perspective): "Setting a new Linac of RFQ type in exploitation". Supervisor: Kobetz V.V. Necessary pre-requisite: basic education in accelerator theory/technics.

  4. PhD thesis, physics: "Deuteron analyzing powers in the C12(d,p)C13 reaction at 200 MeV". Supervisor: Ladygin V.P. (vladygin@jinr.ru). The data were obtained at RIKEN within R308n experiment.

  5. PhD Thesis, physics: "Implementation of SHIELD generator in ROOT geometry manager for simulation of heavy ion collisions". Supervisors: Rogachevsky O. (rogachevsky@jinr.ru), Polansky A. (polanski@jinr.ru).

  6. PhD thesis, detectors: "Design and testing of a specialized chip (ASIC) for data readout from pads at high rates". Supervisors: Zanevsky Yu.V. (zanevsky@jinr.ru), Chernenko S.P. (chernenko@jinr.ru). Prototype: the nXYTER chip under design for FAIR experiments (PANDA, CBM). Possible application at: TRDs (CBM, NICA), Si-strip detectors (IT at MPD, CBM), TPC detector (with GEMs) at PANDA etc.

  7. PhD thesis, detectors: "Upgrade of the digital readout electronics for drift chambers at HADES" (under discussion). For themes 5-7 the necessary basic education in Linux/Windows OS's, ROOT, FPGA, interfaces are necessary + knowledge of methods for particle detection. Supervisors: Zanevsky Yu.V. (zanevsky@jinr.ru), Chernenko S.P. (chernenko@jinr.ru).

  8. PhD thesis, detectors: "Tracking in the TPC for MPD at NICA". Supervisors: Zanevsky Yu.V. (zanevsky@jinr.ru), Chernenko S.P. (chernenko@jinr.ru).

  9. Magister Thesis, detectors: "Study of multigap Resistive Plane Chambers for time of flight system of MPD at NICA". Supervisor: Golovatyuk V.M. The work includes assembling and test of the chamber with cosmic rays and on the beam of the Nuclotron. The experimental setup includes data acquisition system based on VME. To optimize the detector design a computer simulation of the signal formation in the detector has to be done.

  10. Magister Thesis, physics: "Low energy polarimeter for new source of polarized ions at LHEP". Supervisor: Ladygin V.P. (vladygin@jinr.ru).

  11. Magister Thesis, physics (after polarized deutron beam revival at Nuclotron": at least 4 themes for magister theses concerning deuteron induced reactions. Supervisor: Ladygin V.P. (vladygin@jinr.ru)

  14. Magister Thesis. "Proposal of experiment on search for shock waves in inverse kinematics at future detectors CBM (Darmstadt, Germany) and MPD (JINR, Dubna)". Annotation: computer simulations for preparation of the proposal for experiment in Germany and JINR. Prerequisite: fluent C++ or C knowledge, and interview. Supervisor: Dr. Yu. A.   15. Magister Thesis. "R/a source and beam tests with relativistic particles of prototypes of silicon tracking systems for CBM and MPD detectors (Darmstadt, Germany and JINR, Dubna)". Annotation: work in a team of experimentalists, exploitation of high-technology equipment on DAQ in distributed networks. Prerequisite: fluent C++ or C knowledge, and interview. Supervisor: Dr. Yu. The work implies theoretical and experimental study on search for turbulence effects in proton-proton (and proton-nuclei, A=C, Si and Pb) interactions with extremely high multiplicities (more that 18 secondary particles) at proton energy of 50 GeV at IHEP accelerator U-70 (Protvino).
